Battery-powered smoke detector — a standalone unit powered by a 9V (annually replaced) or a sealed 10-year lithium battery. Photoelectric sensors react faster to smoldering fires, which cause at least a third of fatal home fires; ionization sensors react faster to fast, flaming fires.
